Pet Vaccinations from All Animal Veterinary Services
Vaccinations are essential to the long-term health of your pet. At All Animal Veterinary Services in Modena, NY, we will set your pet up with the proper vaccines to ensure a long, happy life. If you are interested in vaccinations for your pet, read on to learn more about the importance of vaccination.
What are Pet Vaccines?
Vaccines boost the immune system and target specific disease-causing agents. Having a pet vaccinated lessens the symptoms of future diseases and lowers the chances of your pet being infected in the first place. Our veterinarians will decide which vaccinations are best for your pet.
Should I Vaccinate My Pet?
To protect your pet from contagious and fatal diseases, it is recommended you vaccinate your pet. Since the invention of vaccines, millions of animals have been saved.
It is required by New York Public Health Law 2141 for all cats, dogs, and domestic ferrets by four months of age, to receive a Rabies vaccine. Owners can be fined up to $200 if they fail to get their pets vaccinated and keep them up-to-date. The first vaccine is boostered in one year, after that the vaccine is good for 3 years or a vaccine titer can be run to determine and monitor the pets level of protection.
When Should I Vaccinate My Pet?
Generally, the younger an animal is vaccinated the better. Ideally, an animal is vaccinated before they reach four months of age.
What are the Correct Vaccines for My Pet?
Veterinarians take into account several factors when setting up a vaccination plan for your pet. Lifestyle and other risk factors are considered. Non-core vaccines such as canine kennel cough are part of the decision about the overall vaccination plan for your pet.
However, there are core vaccines that all pets should have and are part of every vaccination plan.
- Rabies
- Feline panleukopenia
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis
- Feline calicivirus infection
- Canine distemper
- Canine parvovirus infection
- Canine hepatitis
Note that these are the most common vaccinations we provide. At All Animal Veterinary Services, we work with all types of animals including cows, sheep, goats, pigs, and other farm animals. We will work with you to develop a vaccination plan for any of your animals.
Does a Pet Require Revaccination?
Most vaccines are given once per year. However, some may need to be boostered sooner. Others protect longer. The timetable depends entirely on the vaccination schedule you set up with us.
Are Vaccinations Dangerous for Pets?
All medical procedures carry a certain amount of risk, but vaccinations do more good than harm. It is another reason why a vaccine schedule is essential for your pet’s health.
What are the side effects of vaccinations?
Much like in humans, animals have mild reactions to vaccines. Normal allergy symptoms might arise. Though very rare, severe reactions can occur. If your pet is having a severe reaction, contact us immediately. For example, contact us if your pet exhibits:
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Swelling around the neck, face, or eyes
- Pain or swelling at the vaccination site
- Itchy or bumpy skin
- Severe coughing or other respiratory problems
- Collapsing
